According to AFP, on October 29, South Korean President Park Geun-hye told 10 of her senior advisers that she would submit her resignation ahead of a reshuffle of the Presidential Office and a public apology, amid calls for her resignation over allegations that she allowed her close friend Choi Soon-sil to interfere in national affairs.

On the same day, pressure intensified on President Park Geun-hye as a large-scale protest took place surrounding these allegations. Currently, Choi Soon-sil is under investigation for allegedly using her connections with President Park Geun-hye to extort money from large corporations.

But the real shock came from the revelations that Park Geun-hye had allowed Choi Soon-sil to review her presidential speeches and seemingly advise the president on important policy choices.

Prosecutors have taken two close aides of Choi Soon-sil in for questioning, one of whom told reporters that Choi Soon-sil was treated as de facto regent for President Park Geun-hye.
