South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol said he would "fight to the end" as his political party moved closer to joining the opposition in an impeachment vote against him.

According to Reuters, in a televised address on December 12, South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol accused North Korea of attacking South Korea's election commission, raising doubts about the major defeat of his ruling People's Party (PPP) in the April election.

President Yoon hoped political allies would rally in support of him, but this seems unlikely following his speech. The PPP leader stated that it was time for the president to resign or face impeachment by the National Assembly.

Late on December 12, six opposition parties led by the Democratic Party submitted an impeachment bill against President Yoon to the National Assembly. The vote is scheduled for December 14, a week after the first vote failed because most PPP members disagreed.

Reuters reported that at least seven members of the PPP party are expected to support the new impeachment move. At least eight PPP votes are needed to reach the two-thirds majority required to impeach Yoon.

The South Korean president said the opposition was "wielding swords wildly" by trying to pull a democratically elected president out of power, following his unsuccessful attempt to impose martial law.

"I will fight to the end," President Yoon said. "Whether they impeach me or investigate me, I will face it all head-on."

South Korean opposition leader Lee Jae-myung said on December 13 that the best way to restore order in the country is to impeach President Yoon Suk-yeol.

Lee called President Yoon's statement "a declaration of war" against the people. "It proves that impeachment is the quickest and most effective way to end the chaos," he said.
