Philippine President tells Obama to 'go to hell'.

The Philippine president said his American counterpart Barack Obama "can go to hell" and said he didn't care that Washington refused to sell some weapons to Manila.

"Instead of helping us, the first blow came from the Foreign Office. Therefore, you can go to hell, Mr. Obama, you can go to hell," Reuters quoted Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte as saying in a speech today in Manila.

According to him, the US should support the Philippines in its fight against drug crime instead of criticizing Manila for the many deaths in the operation.

"The European Union had better choose hell itself. Hell is already full. Why should I be afraid of you?" President Duterte said, indicating he could no longer tolerate it. "That is my response."

In his subsequent speech, Duterte said he was "overreacted" that the US was no longer a friend of the Philippines after the May elections.

"They are simply... attacking another president in front of the international community," he told the Jewish community at a synagogue. "That's what's happening. I will be reviewing foreign policy. I may part ways with the United States in my time."

It is unclear whether "during the time" refers to Duterte's six-year presidential term. According to some US officials, Washington is doing everything it can to ignore Duterte's comments and avoid giving him a pretext for further attacks.

No discussions about sanctions, such as cutting aid to the Philippines, are underway, two U.S. officials said yesterday. Meanwhile, some of Duterte's allies say he is increasingly resembling a capable politician.
