President Putin warns against neocolonialism and attempts to reshape relations in the Asia-Pacific region.
(Baonghean.vn) - Russian President Vladimir Putin affirmed on August 15 that NATO could potentially merge with AUKUS - the security treaty between the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia - as Washington attempts to reshape the Asia-Pacific region to serve its own needs.
Speaking at the 21st International Security Conference in Moscow, the Russian leader stated that "among many other issues, the United States seeks to reshape the system of interaction between developed countries in the Asia-Pacific region."
Putin added that calls to develop so-called Indo-Pacific strategies “are essentially aimed at creating political-military associations controlled by Washington.”
Referring to the agreement reached at the end of 2021 between Washington, London, and Canberra, President Putin emphasized: "We do not rule out the possibility that things are leading to the complete integration of NATO forces with the structures created by the AUKUS bloc."
The Russian president alluded to this possibility while warning of a "neo-colonial West," led by Washington, that is seeking to delay the formation of a multipolar world by destabilizing and fueling tensions in various regions of the world.

President Putin stated: "Most countries are ready to defend their sovereignty and national interests, traditions, culture, and way of life. New economic and political centers are being consolidated." At the same time, the leader noted that this trend could become an important basis for stable development and progress globally.
However, amidst this, the Russian leader warned that "many old conflicts are being stirred up and new points of conflict are being provoked" in various parts of the world.
He asserted that the goal of those carrying out this was very clear: "to continue profiting from the tragedies of humanity, to push people into hostility with one another, to force countries to comply in a new colonial system, and to exploit their resources mercilessly."
Putin added that NATO member states continue to strengthen and modernize their offensive capabilities, even seeking to expand military conflict into the space and information domains, using both military and non-military means.
The Russian president noted that, although security challenges in each hotspot around the world have their own unique characteristics, "in reality, they are all created by geopolitical adventures, by selfish, neocolonial actions of the West."
Putin affirmed that Russia remains committed to reducing confrontation at global and regional levels, and continues its efforts to develop a multipolar world order based on a preference for the practices and rules of international law, as well as on constructive cooperation and trust.
