According to the TASS news agency. On May 25th, N1 television reported that Serbian President Vucic had shared the possibility of stepping down from his leadership position. This statement, made during his visit to China, attracted significant attention from international observers.

"I may resign soon," the Serbian leader said. This move is explained by the fact that his term is drawing to a close.

President Vučić was first elected President of Serbia in 2017. In 2022, he was re-elected for a second term. According to the constitution, his current presidential term will officially expire in 2027.

Earlier, on May 21, he announced plans to hold parliamentary elections in the fall. The elections are expected to take place from the end of September to mid-November.

Serbian Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabić revealed important information. According to her, the ruling Serbian Progressive Party will nominate Vučić as its candidate for prime minister in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

Regarding its stance on joining the European Union (EU), Serbia remains firm in its position. However, Serbian President Vucic affirmed that this process would not harm the development of relations with the United States.

In a commentary on Fox News, the Serbian leader pointed out that a "disregard" for the United States is spreading in Europe recently. By emphasizing "strategic autonomy," Europe is tending to "distance itself from Washington."

However, Serbia is taking a completely opposite approach. Vučić emphasized that "sympathy for America" is growing in this Balkan nation.

"Serbia remains committed to its goal of becoming a full member of the European Union. For us, the path to Brussels does not require turning our backs on Washington. On the contrary, we believe that Serbia's unique relationship with the United States can become an asset, contributing to the stability and growth of the entire European continent," the Serbian president wrote.
