President Trump begins tariff negotiations with 3 countries
After imposing new tariffs globally, President Trump has begun tariff negotiations with several countries.

CNN cited reliable sources reporting that US President Donald Trump had phone calls with representatives of Vietnam, India and Israel about the import tax he just imposed.
“President Donald Trump has contacted representatives from Vietnam, India and Israel to negotiate separate trade deals to ease the tariffs he has proposed for those countries, ahead of a deadline next week,” CNN reported.
The outreach between President Trump and those countries is seen as a small part of the targets of his high tariffs. According to CNN, the White House boss's move is considered the first wave of negotiations as countries map out strategies to deal with Mr. Trump.
Several countries, including China and Canada, have announced plans to retaliate. According to a senior White House official, the “reciprocal” tariffs will take effect on April 9, 2025 (Washington time).
Despite the insistence of senior trade official Peter Navarro and Vice President JD Vance that the new tariffs represent a permanent reset in global trade, others on President Trump’s team have acknowledged the American leader’s natural inclination to strike deals.
Eric Trump – son of President Donald Trump, posted on social network X: “The first person to negotiate will win, the last person will definitely lose. I have watched this movie all my life”.
On April 4, President Trump announced that he was ready to negotiate on trade.
“Every country has called us,” Trump told reporters. “That’s the beauty of what we do, we put ourselves in the driver’s seat. As long as they give us something good. For example, with TikTok. When China says, ‘Beijing will make a deal, but will you do something about tariffs?’ Tariffs give the United States tremendous bargaining power.”
