"We are getting closer to our goal," President Trump told reporters at a joint press conference with the Israeli Prime Minister on April 7, commenting on Washington's efforts to end the conflict in Ukraine.
President Trump added that he was “not happy” about the ongoing air strikes in the conflict. “It’s a terrible thing, a terrible thing,” Mr Trump stressed.
Earlier, on April 7, the press secretary of the President of Russia, Dmitry Peskov, noted that President Vladimir Putin supports the idea of a ceasefire in Ukraine, but for this to happen, a number of issues need to be resolved and they are currently unclear.
In addition, Mr. Peskov emphasized, another important issue is that NATO still wants to increase its military presence in Ukraine after the conflict ends.
"We want to reach a ceasefire as soon as possible. But we have to protect Russia's national interests," Mr. Peskov said.
On the Ukrainian side, President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russia of refusing to accept an unconditional ceasefire to continue launching missiles from the Black Sea.
"This is one of the reasons Russia distorts diplomacy, why they refuse to agree to an unconditional ceasefire. They want to maintain the ability to attack our cities and ports from the sea," President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a speech on the evening of April 6.
