According to RIA Novosti on January 9, the New York Times reported that US President Donald Trump expressed the view that the norms of the post-war world order should not restrict Washington's power.

The newspaper reported, quoting an interview with the American leader: "President Trump described the norms of the postwar order as an unnecessary burden on a superpower."

This statement comes amid escalating tensions in the Caribbean region following the US campaign in Venezuela.

On January 5th, the U.S. State Department declared the Western Hemisphere a region of concern for Washington, emphasizing President Trump's determination to prevent threats to U.S. national security. The department included a black-and-white photograph of the U.S. President at an official event, accompanied by the slogan "This is OUR Hemisphere."

Trump has also repeatedly stated that the island of Greenland (Denmark) should become part of the United States. He emphasized the island's strategic importance to national security and the protection of the "free world," including escaping the influence of China and Russia. Former Greenland Prime Minister Mute Egede responded that the island is not for sale and will never be sold. Later, US Deputy Secretary of State Stephen Miller, in an interview with CNN, questioned the legality of Denmark's control over Greenland. After CNN asked him about the possibility of using military action to annex the island, Miller stated that the island's population is only 30,000, so such action is unnecessary.

On January 8th, Politico reported that European countries are developing a deterrent plan against the US in case it attacks Greenland.
