According to RIA Novosti on April 28, the Wall Street Journal, citing unnamed US government officials, reported that President Donald Trump is skeptical of Iran's proposal for negotiations. However, the White House has not directly rejected Tehran's offer. Previously, President Trump had stated that negotiations could take place via telephone, rather than in person.
Trump stated that Iran still appears unwilling to meet Washington's core demand: that Tehran completely abandon its uranium enrichment program.
The Wall Street Journal also emphasized that the US will continue to maintain rounds of negotiations with Iran. Washington intends to present its response and offer counter-proposals to Iran's plan in the coming days.
Earlier, Al Mayadeen television reported that Iran had given mediators a detailed three-stage plan. Based on this plan, Tehran expressed its willingness to negotiate with the US. The specific steps mentioned included: The first stage of negotiations would "focus on ending the war and obtaining assurances" that military action against Iran and Lebanon would not be repeated. The second stage of discussions should address the issue of managing the Strait of Hormuz after the conflict ends. The final stage in Iran's negotiation proposal would directly address Tehran's nuclear program.
