President Donald Trump has sent congratulations to Ukrainian leader Petro Poroshenko on the occasion of Ukraine's Independence Day, affirming that Washington will always stand by Kyiv.

"Please remember that the United States will always stand with Ukraine at times when Kyiv is defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders," - President Poroshenko's press office quoted President Trump's cable as saying.
The statement said that in his message, the US leader noted Ukraine's growing economy and declared that its armed forces are "stronger than ever."
Earlier, Poroshenko stated that the country's army would be among the strongest in Europe, "because the Ukrainian people now know exactly what they are fighting for."
