TOP 5 most disappointing foreign players of SLNA
(Baonghean.vn) - The Nghe An team is still highly regarded for its ability to recruit foreign players. Experts even consider SLNA a "transit station" for foreign players for teams in the V.League. However, recently, the Vinh team has often made deals that "throw money out the window".
Here are the 5 most disappointing foreign players of SLNA, according to the vote of Nghe An Newspaper.
1. Willis Plaza

Recruited by SLNA in the 2011 season, but it was not until the beginning of the 2013 season that the Trinidad & Tobago striker was able to return to Vinh Stadium to play, after 2 seasons playing for Navibank Saigon on loan. Unfortunately, Willis Plaza did not meet the expectations of the SLNA coaching staff and Nghe An football fans. 4 goals in the 2013 V.League were all that Willis Plaza could do for the Vinh Stadium team.
2. Voinea Petrisor

With impressive performances in Xi Mang The Vissai Ninh Binh shirt at AFC Cup 2014 (4 goals), the Romanian striker was recruited by SLNA to play in the second leg of V.League 2014. In contrast to what happened at the ancient capital Hoa Lu, Voinea Petrisor is only "a shadow of himself" at the Nghe An team. According to statistics, Voinea Petrisor played 11 matches and scored only 1 goal.
3. Danko Kovacevic

At the end of the first leg of V.League 2017, SLNA unexpectedly terminated the contract with striker Henry Shackiel, who had scored 6 goals in 13 appearances. It was thought that the appearance of Danko Kovacevic would help SLNA's attack become more effective, at least compared to what Henry Shackiel had done. However, the Montenegrin striker played poorly, especially in the V.League arena (9 matches, 1 goal).
4. Osmar Moreira

Entering the 2018 season, SLNA had the service of striker Osmar Moreira, a player who played successfully in the 2016 season for HAGL. Despite receiving a lot of expectations, Osmar Moreira failed to prove anything. Injuries were the main reason for the Brazilian striker's serious decline in form. 1 goal after 8 starts was proof of the harmlessness of the striker born in 1987.
5. Marcio Alves

Continuing with the policy of trusting foreign strikers, it was no surprise when SLNA signed a contract with striker Marcio Alves right before the 2019 season. Like Osmar Moreira, Marcio Alves is a player from Brazil and only lasted at SLNA for nearly half a season. Unable to prove his ability (0 goals, 1 red card), the striker born in 1990 had his contract terminated by the Nghe An team ahead of schedule.
This season, SLNA has 3 foreign players in its squad: center back Gustavo Santos (Brazil), striker Peter Onyekachi (Nigeria) and striker Alagie Sosseh (Gambia).
Nghe An football fans are hoping that they will not "follow in the footsteps" of the above 5 players./.
