Torres leaves Atletico Madrid after 2017/18 season

"I want to confirm my final season with Atletico Madrid. Both the club and I understand that this is the right time to say goodbye," Fernando Torres revealed.

"It was a really difficult decision, because initially I wanted to hang up my boots at Atletico. However, the time has come to make way for other talented players," the Spanish striker added.

Fernando Torres left Milan in 2015 and was given a chance by Atletico. At the Vicente Calderon (now Wanda Metropolitano), "El Nino" made 139 appearances, scoring 34 goals in all competitions. Unfortunately, he failed to win any trophies during this time.

Responding to his future plans, the striker born in 1984 said: "I feel fine and still want to continue playing football, maybe for two or three more years. I am ready to listen to offers and will make a decision soon."

Fernando Torres also emphasized that this was entirely his own decision. There was no conflict between him and coach Diego Simeone as rumored by the press: "The relationship between me and Simeone is completely normal and professional. I am ready to play in any position he asks. This is a decision based on mutual respect."

Torres started his career with Atletico Madrid in 2001, then played for famous clubs such as Liverpool, Chelsea, Milan. He has conquered most of the titles at both club and national team levels such as Champions League, Europa League, World Cup, EURO. With his beautiful playing style and clean personal life, "El Nino" became the idol of a large number of football lovers.

Currently, some mid-level teams in the Premier League such as West Ham and Newcastle are interested in acquiring Torres' signature in the next summer transfer window. Besides, the US professional league MLS is also a good choice for the 2010 World Cup champion.
