Vinh City: Kim Lien Street has no sidewalks.

(Baonghean.vn) - Kim Lien Road, approximately 1.5 km long, is located entirely within Hung Chinh commune, but currently lacks sidewalks, causing a loss of urban aesthetics and traffic safety.

Located at the western gateway of Vinh City, Kim Lien Road is a vital route connecting Vinh City with the districts of Hung Nguyen, Nam Dan, Thanh Chuong, and others.

Hung Chinh commune has been incorporated into the city for 9 years now, and Kim Lien road has become an urban road, but the sidewalks along both sides of the road have not yet been invested in and constructed. Due to the lack of planning and sidewalk construction, the road has become messy, dirty, and overgrown with weeds in many sections. Shops and stalls set up right on the edge of the road.

Along both sides of the road are government offices and nearly 200 houses. Pilgrims from all over the country traveling to President Ho Chi Minh's birthplace pass through this route. In addition, there is the Duoc market, the health station, and schools in Hung Chinh commune. Therefore, the traffic volume on this road is very high, especially between 6:30 and 8:00 AM and during rush hour.

However, without sidewalks, pedestrians are forced to walk on the road, sharing the traffic with motorized and non-motorized vehicles. Residents on both sides of the road utilize their storefronts for business, displaying tables, chairs, advertising signs, and goods right up to the edge of the road, creating traffic hazards and making the urban landscape look unsightly and disorganized.

“This road is near the market and school, so many people walk here. There are no sidewalks, so pedestrians are forced to share the road with vehicles. They know it’s unsafe, but they still have to,” said Mr. Bui Viet Phung from Hamlet 4, Hung Chinh.

The most dangerous section is the bend connecting Duoc Market to the intersection with Nguyen Duc Mai Street, approximately 300 meters long. Houses and fences belonging to residents are built right up to the edge of the road, restricting visibility for road users and posing a significant risk of traffic accidents.

Ms. Hanh, a resident of Hung Chinh commune, expressed her concern: "I frequently carry goods to the market along this road. Without a sidewalk, walking in the middle of the road like this makes me worried about collisions."

The road lacks sidewalks, the drainage system is inadequate, and residents along both sides of the road utilize their storefronts for business. Businesses display goods and advertising signs right at the edge of the road, causing traffic congestion, safety hazards, and damage to urban aesthetics.

“The lack of sidewalks on Kim Lien Street makes it very difficult for the local authorities to carry out campaigns to clear the traffic safety corridor. There are shops and stalls on both sides of the road, but the commune can only educate and persuade people to move them inside; they cannot take action because it is people's land,” said Mr. Nguyen Hong Quang, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Hung Chinh Commune.
