Vinh City: Heavy rains damage over 60 hectares of vegetable crops.

(Baonghean.vn) - Heavy rains lasting for more than 10 days have caused flooding and damage to over 60 hectares of various types of vegetables in specialized vegetable farming areas in Vinh City.

Nghi An, one of the city's major vegetable-growing areas, suffered extensive damage to over 10 hectares of vegetables after the recent storms. This included 5 hectares of summer-autumn vegetables such as water spinach, sweet potatoes, and chili peppers. Additionally, 5 hectares of early-planted winter vegetables like gourds and cabbage (out of a total of 30 hectares of winter vegetables planned for the entire commune this year) were completely destroyed.

Farmers in Nghi An commune, Vinh City, are trying to salvage their withered chili crop after prolonged rains and flooding.

The area of ​​vegetables damaged by the recent storms was mainly summer-autumn vegetables in several communes: Nghi Lien (5ha), Hung Dong (33 ha), Dong Vinh (8.7ha), and Nghi Phu (3.5ha).

Some early-planted winter vegetable varieties also withered due to flooding.

Currently, in the vegetable-growing areas, farmers are urgently replanting damaged areas due to floods and heavy rains to ensure timely planting. According to the plan, Vinh City will cultivate over 237 hectares of various vegetables during the 2016 winter crop season.
