(Baonghean.vn) - Currently, Vinh city is upgrading and repairing many roads, including Nguyen Van Cu street - where there are many shops and business kiosks. People want the government and construction units to speed up the progress, limiting the impact on businesses.

Many households on Nguyen Van Cu Street said that for several months now, their shops have been empty of customers because the sidewalk is under construction. On the entire eastern sidewalk of the street, from the intersection with Le Hong Phong Street to the intersection with Nguyen Sy Sach Street, they are currently re-tiling bricks, installing drainage ditches, and reinstalling telecommunication cables and water pipes. The construction of sidewalk items has affected the business activities of dozens of kiosks and shops. "Materials are scattered and block the entrance to the store. Sometimes, even pedestrians cannot enter because the construction unit is digging large holes, or piling up soil and rocks, making customers afraid to go in to buy," said a clothing store owner. Along with the pavement re-paving, telecommunication and electrical cable systems were also installed for synchronous construction. Photo: NK

To ensure labor safety, the construction unit has placed signs, barricades, and even used ropes to surround the entrances to the stores. Residents said that although they strongly support the city's construction and upgrading of infrastructure, the construction has a significant impact on business efficiency. Therefore, residents want the city to direct the construction to speed up the progress and minimize damage to businesses. At the same time, research the construction time and move the parts that can be done at night to help reduce the impact on residents. Photo: NK

It was nearly 4pm on a Saturday, but many shops on Nguyen Van Cu Street were still closed, because even if they were open, they would be deserted, with almost no customers coming in because the entrances were blocked by machinery, sand, and rocks. Photo: NK

Businesses are doing their own thing, cleaning up to "attract customers". "After 2 years of being affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, we had to cover the bank loan because we couldn't sell anything. We just recently started operating again, but not long ago we encountered this sluggish situation again. I hope the city will soon complete the sidewalk repair to ease our difficulties" - said a children's clothing store owner. Photo: NK

Previously, the sidewalk on Nguyen Van Cu Street was marked with lines, including areas for motorbikes, bicycles and pedestrians. Since the sidewalk was constructed, customers have had to park their vehicles on the street. Photo: NK
