(Baonghean.vn) - Currently, Vinh City is upgrading and repairing many roads, including Nguyen Van Cu Street - where there are many shops and kiosks. Residents hope that the authorities and the construction unit will speed up the progress and minimize the impact on businesses.

Many residents on Nguyen Van Cu Street have expressed concerns that their shops have been experiencing a lack of customers for several months due to ongoing sidewalk construction. The entire eastern sidewalk of the street, from the intersection with Le Hong Phong Street to the intersection with Nguyen Sy Sach Street, is currently undergoing renovations including repaving, drainage ditches, and the reinstallation of telecommunications cables and water pipes. The construction of sidewalks has affected the business operations of dozens of kiosks and shops. "Construction materials are scattered everywhere, blocking the entrances to the shops. Sometimes even pedestrians can't get in because the construction crew is digging large holes or piling up soil and rocks, making customers hesitant to come in," said a clothing store owner. Along with repaving the sidewalks, telecommunications and electrical cables were also installed to ensure the project was completed simultaneously. Photo: NK

To ensure workplace safety, the construction unit has placed warning signs, barriers, and even used ropes to cordon off access to the shops. Residents said that while they fully support the city's infrastructure development and upgrades, the construction is significantly impacting their businesses. Therefore, they hope the city will direct the construction to speed up the process and minimize losses for businesses. They also request that the construction schedule be adjusted, moving parts of the work that can be done at night to reduce disruption to residents. (Photo: NK)

It was nearly 4 PM on Saturday, but many shops on Nguyen Van Cu Street were still closed. Even if they were open, business was slow, with almost no customers coming in because the access was blocked by machinery, sand, and stones. Photo: NK

Businesses are fending for themselves, cleaning up to "attract customers." "After two years of being affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, we had to cover our bank loans because we couldn't do any business. We only recently started operating again, and now we're facing this slump. We hope the city will soon complete the sidewalk repairs so we can alleviate our difficulties," said a children's clothing store owner. (Photo: NK)

Previously, the sidewalks on Nguyen Van Cu Street were marked with lines, dividing the area into zones for motorbikes, bicycles, and pedestrians. Since the sidewalk construction began, shoppers have had to park their vehicles on the road. Photo: NK
