Vinh City: Restaurants that do not meet the requirements are still granted food safety certificates.

(Baonghean.vn) - During an inspection in Vinh City, the provincial inter-agency team discovered several establishments that did not meet the requirements but were still granted food safety certificates.

The inter-agency team conducted an inspection at Hieu Hue restaurant, located on Le Mao extended road, Vinh City.

Since the Lunar New Year, the inter-agency food safety inspection team of Nghe An province has conducted inspections and follow-up checks at 25 food production, business, and processing establishments in four localities within the province, including Que Phong district, Dien Chau district, Hoang Mai town, and Vinh city. Through these inspections, the team directly fined three establishments a total of 11.5 million VND; and handed over the cases of several other establishments to local authorities for further action.

In late February 2017, the inspection team visited four restaurants and businesses in Vinh City. During the inspection, the team discovered that two food service businesses on Le Mao Extended Street, Vinh Tan Ward, lacked food sample storage cabinets, yet they were still granted food safety certificates by the Vinh City Health Department and People's Committee. Furthermore, the business owners seemed unaware of the importance of food sample storage.

There are no food sample storage cabinets; the raw material storage area also serves as the staff's sleeping quarters.

The inspection team proceeded to penalize these two businesses according to Point i, Article 21, "Violation of regulations on conditions ensuring food safety in food service businesses of the type processing ready-made meals; canteens; collective kitchens; kitchens and restaurants of hotels and resorts; restaurants," of Government Decree 178/2013/ND-CP dated November 14, 2013, on regulations on administrative penalties for food safety violations.

The certificates of knowledge in food hygiene and safety were issued as a formality, a way to cover up the truth. In the photo, certificate number 041 was issued on March 23, 2016, while certificate number 042 was issued on March 18, 2016?

During the administrative procedure inspection at these two households, the team also discovered several other shortcomings related to health certificates and certificates confirming knowledge of food safety.

On March 1, 2017, the inter-agency inspection team on food safety of Nghe An province continued its work in Con Cuong district. In the coming time, the team will continue to inspect more establishments and work with the Vinh City Food Safety Steering Committee.
