A solemn ceremony commemorating the 74th anniversary of the death of General Secretary Le Hong Phong.

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of August 28, 2016 (corresponding to the 26th day of the 7th lunar month of the Year of the Monkey), the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Management Board of Historical Sites and Scenic Spots of Nghe An Province organized a ceremony to lay flowers and offer incense in commemoration of General Secretary Le Hong Phong on the 74th anniversary of his death at the Le Hong Phong Memorial Area, Hung Thong commune, Hung Nguyen district.

Attending the ceremony were: Nguyen Xuan Son – Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; Le Minh Thong - Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Ho Mau Thanh – Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism; representatives of the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda Department, Hung Nguyen district; representatives of the Le family clan in Hung Thong commune…

Comrade Nguyen Xuan Son - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Council - laid flowers and offered incense in commemoration of General Secretary Le Hong Phong.

Comrade Le Hong Phong was born on September 6, 1902, in Hung Thong commune, Hung Nguyen district. Early on, he became politically aware and participated in revolutionary activities, dedicating his entire life to the revolutionary cause and national liberation. In March 1935, Comrade Le Hong Phong assumed the position of General Secretary at the First Congress of the Party in Macau.

On June 22, 1939, Comrade Le Hong Phong was arrested and sentenced by the Saigon Court to 6 months of imprisonment and 3 years of house arrest. In 1940, Comrade Le Hong Phong was arrested a second time in his hometown by the French colonial authorities, then imprisoned in the Saigon Central Prison and sentenced to 5 years of imprisonment and exile to Con Dao Island. On September 6, 1942, corresponding to the 26th day of the 7th lunar month of the Year of the Horse, Comrade Le Hong Phong died on Con Dao Island.

In a solemn atmosphere, Comrade Nguyen Xuan Son and the attending delegates laid flowers and offered incense before the spirit of General Secretary Le Hong Phong, expressing their profound respect for his contributions and sacrifices to the revolutionary cause and the struggle for national liberation.
