Young intellectuals volunteering in Group 4 contribute to building the border region's economy.
(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of August 14th, at Na Ngoi commune, the 4th Economic and National Defense Brigade held a conference to summarize the results of the 4th phase of Project 174 on strengthening the team of young intellectuals working in economic and national defense zones.

After one year of project implementation, the 28 young intellectual volunteers selected by the 4th Economic and National Defense Brigade have effectively demonstrated their pioneering and volunteer spirit; coordinating with local authorities to participate in socio-economic development, while simultaneously strengthening national defense and security, politics, and social order and safety.

Immediately after being recruited, the team of young intellectual volunteers proactively developed plans to coordinate with local Party committees and authorities to organize talks combined with disseminating the Party's guidelines and policies, and the State's laws and regulations; they also collaborated with local agricultural extension officers to effectively promote, mobilize, and guide the people in livestock and crop farming techniques, successfully building many economic models and contributing to poverty reduction in the area.
In particular, they have closely coordinated with the education department and local Party committees and authorities to open two literacy classes for 60 students in Phung, Xop Lau, and Xop Xang villages; collaborated with the 4th Regiment's Medical Clinic to organize free medical examinations, distribute free medicine, and provide health care advice to thousands of people; Party development work has been emphasized, and to date, 8 new Party members have been admitted.
Speaking on behalf of the young intellectual volunteer team at the conference, member Nguyen Thi Tu pledged to use the knowledge she had learned and the enthusiasm of youth to build a more prosperous and happy life in the border region.
Speaking at the conference, Colonel Nguyen Viet Yen - Head of the Economic Department, Deputy Head of Project 174 Steering Committee of Military Region 4 - highly appreciated the contributions of young intellectuals in the socio-economic development of border areas; and affirmed that these contributions are important factors for the unit to effectively carry out its national defense economic tasks.

To further enhance the effectiveness of achieving the project's goals and targets, especially in applying them to the practical context of the Economic and National Defense Zone, it is suggested that the following key tasks should be focused on in the coming period: Closely coordinate with agencies and departments of the communes within the Economic and National Defense Zone to continue implementing research projects and expanding highly feasible models; develop plans to closely monitor the area, combining village meetings and youth union activities to disseminate the Party's guidelines, policies, and the State's laws; continue opening literacy classes and raising awareness among the people in the project area; regularly pay attention to, care for, assist, and encourage policy beneficiary families and families with meritorious contributions to the revolution...

At the conference, the 4th Economic and National Defense Brigade awarded certificates of commendation to six young volunteer intellectuals who had achieved outstanding results in performing their duties during the 2016-2017 period.
The Project Area under the responsibility of Team 4 covers a natural area of nearly 60,000 hectares, located in the northern border communes of Ky Son district, with 94 km of border shared with Laos. It is one of the particularly difficult areas in Nghe An province and the entire country.
