Deploying a congenital heart disease screening program for poor children in Nghe An
(Baonghean.vn)- The program "Heart for Children" will organize a screening session for children in Nghe An province.
In order to promote early detection and early treatment of congenital heart disease for poor children, the “Heart for Children” program in collaboration with the Cardiovascular Center – Hanoi Medical University Hospital, Pediatric Cardiology Department, Vietnam National Heart Institute – Bach Mai Hospital will organize a screening session for children in Nghe An province. The program will take place from November 16-17, 2016, at Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital (Ton That Tung Street – Vinh City).

Subjects examined: Children aged 0-16 years old, may have the following symptoms and manifestations: have been detected by doctors at medical facilities, suspected of having congenital heart disease; often have recurrent coughs and wheezing; abnormal breathing (rapid breathing, chest retractions when inhaling); children often have pneumonia, bronchitis; children show signs of slow feeding (lasting more than 30 minutes) or cannot finish feeding; rapid breathing, sweating, especially after feedings; children grow slowly, have pale, cold skin, sweat, often get tired easily; lips, tongue, fingertips are blue; shortness of breath when exerting.
Launched in October 2008, the Vietnam Television Foundation and the Military Telecommunications Group (Viettel) have jointly implemented the program “Heart for Children” to support humanitarian heart surgery for all poor Vietnamese children under 16 years old, contributing to giving them a healthy heart and a normal life. After more than 7 years of implementation, the program has successfully supported surgery for nearly 3,000 children under 16 years old with congenital heart disease in difficult circumstances.
