Implementing a congenital heart disease screening program for underprivileged children in Nghe An.
(Baonghean.vn) - The "Heart for Children" program will organize a screening for children in Nghe An province.
To promote early detection and treatment of congenital heart disease in underprivileged children, the "Heart for Children" program, in collaboration with the Cardiovascular Center - Hanoi Medical University Hospital, and the Pediatric Cardiology Department, Vietnam National Heart Institute - Bach Mai Hospital, will organize a screening program for children in Nghe An province. The program will take place from November 16-17, 2016, at the Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital (Ton That Tung Street, Vinh City).

Target group for examination: Children aged 0-16 years who may have the following symptoms: suspected congenital heart disease detected by doctors at medical facilities; frequent and recurring cough and wheezing; abnormal breathing (rapid breathing, chest retraction upon inhalation); frequent pneumonia and bronchitis; slow feeding (lasting over 30 minutes) or inability to finish a feeding; rapid breathing, sweating, especially after feedings; slow growth, pale, cold skin, excessive sweating, and easy fatigue; bluish lips, tongue, and fingertips; shortness of breath during exertion.
Launched in October 2008, the Vietnam-Taiwan Heart Foundation of Vietnam Television and the Military Telecommunications Group (Viettel) jointly implemented the "Heart for Children" program to support humanitarian heart surgery for all poor Vietnamese children under 16 years old, contributing to giving them a healthy heart and a normal life. After more than 7 years of implementation, the program has successfully supported surgery for nearly 3,000 children under 16 years old with congenital heart disease from disadvantaged backgrounds.
