The Criminal Police Department has just dismantled a very sophisticated inter-provincial theft gang led by Nguyen Thanh Duoc (alias Teo “rui”, 34 years old, residing in Long Dien commune, Dong Hai district) who had successfully carried out 117 thefts in 5 provinces.

On April 9, Colonel Duong Tu Phuong, Head of the Criminal Police Department of Bac Lieu Province Police, said that the Investigation Police Agency had just dismantled a very sophisticated inter-provincial theft gang led by Nguyen Thanh Duoc (alias Teo “rui”, 34 years old, residing in Hamlet Thanh 1, Long Dien Commune, Dong Hai District) who had successfully carried out 117 thefts in 5 provinces (Bac Lieu, Ca Mau, Kien Giang, Tra Vinh and Tien Giang).

The total amount of property that people lost was worth billions of dong. The Investigation Police Agency has decided to prosecute 22 suspects for the acts of property theft; harboring and consuming property obtained by others through crime; robbery; and intentional injury. At the same time, it has issued a wanted notice for 3 related suspects.

Thief "likes" organ

Colonel Phuong said that from 2014 to early 2016, people in Bac Lieu and several provinces in the Mekong Delta region continuously reported the theft of many valuable assets such as motorbikes, engines, gold, money, organs... In particular, in the region, a series of crocodile thefts occurred continuously, causing panic and anxiety among people, and causing public outrage (Thanh Nien Newspaper reported on September 4, 2015).

Through investigation and surveillance, the police identified Teo “rui” as the main suspect and proceeded to arrest him. Teo “rui” confessed that the gang had 25 members, through which the police prosecuted and temporarily detained 22 suspects, the remaining 3 people managed to escape. Teo “rui” confessed that he had gathered many capable juniors, including Nguyen Thanh Long (Long “le” - 38 years old, residing in Tran Van Thoi District, Ca Mau); Tran Van Phuc (37 years old, residing in Ward 8, Ca Mau City)... to form a gang of thieves. Each time this group took action, they usually went with 4-6 people riding on 2-3 motorbikes or boats to investigate. When they discovered a house that was off guard, they would take action, and be ready to fight back and rescue their accomplices if the homeowner discovered or prevented them. The group successfully carried out 117 thefts, including over 30 crocodile thefts, with nearly 1,000 crocodiles, and especially over 20 organ thefts...

Steal and sell, sell and steal again

Directly participating in the destruction of the above gang of thieves, Major Hoang Ngoc Dao, Captain of the Major Crimes Team of the Criminal Police Department, said that the gang of thieves led by Teo “rui” was very rampant. After stealing property and selling it to others, Teo “rui” and his accomplices also planned to steal again to continue selling it for money to spend.

For example, during the investigation, Teo "rui" confessed that in early 2014, he and his accomplices stole two pythons from local people twice and sold them to Mr. Nguyen Van Hai (67 years old, residing in Thanh Thuong C hamlet, An Trach commune, Dong Hai district).

After 2 "transactions", Teo "rui" saw that Mr. Hai was raising many pythons, so he and his accomplices planned to use pliers to cut the B40 net twice to break into Mr. Hai's python cage, steal the pythons that had been sold, and take 12 more pythons that Mr. Hai was raising, worth tens of millions of dong.
