The investigative police agency has just dismantled a highly sophisticated inter-provincial theft ring led by Nguyen Thanh Duoc (alias Teo "Rui", 34 years old, residing in Long Dien commune, Dong Hai district), which successfully carried out 117 thefts in 5 provinces.

On April 9th, Colonel Duong Tu Phuong, Head of the Criminal Police Department of Bac Lieu Provincial Police, announced that the Investigation Agency had just dismantled a highly sophisticated inter-provincial theft ring led by Nguyen Thanh Duoc (alias Teo "Rui", 34 years old, residing in Thanh 1 hamlet, Long Dien commune, Dong Hai district), which had successfully carried out 117 thefts in 5 provinces (Bac Lieu, Ca Mau, Kien Giang, Tra Vinh, and Tien Giang).

The total value of property lost by the people amounts to billions of VND. The investigative police agency has issued a decision to prosecute 22 defendants for acts of theft; harboring and receiving stolen property; robbery; and intentional infliction of injury. At the same time, they have issued arrest warrants for 3 related suspects.

Thieves "like" organs.

Colonel Phuong stated that from 2014 to early 2016, people in Bac Lieu and several provinces in the Mekong Delta region repeatedly reported the theft of valuable assets such as motorbikes, generators, gold, money, and organs... In particular, a series of crocodile thefts occurred in the area, causing panic and anxiety among the people and public outrage (as reported by Thanh Nien newspaper on September 4, 2015).

Through investigation and surveillance, the police identified Teo "Rui" as the main suspect and proceeded to arrest him. Teo "Rui" confessed that the theft gang had 25 members. The police have since prosecuted and detained 22 suspects, while the remaining 3 managed to escape. Teo "Rui" confessed to gathering many loyal accomplices, including Nguyen Thanh Long (Long "Le" - 38 years old, residing in Tran Van Thoi District, Ca Mau); Tran Van Phuc (37 years old, residing in Ward 8, Ca Mau City)... to form a theft gang. Each time they carried out a robbery, the group usually consisted of 4-6 members traveling on 2-3 motorbikes or small boats to scout the area. When they found a house that was unguarded, they would strike, and were ready to fight back and help their accomplices if the homeowner discovered or tried to stop them. The group successfully carried out 117 property thefts, including over 30 crocodile thefts, stealing nearly 1,000 crocodiles, and notably, over 20 organ thefts...

They steal and sell, then steal again.

Major Hoang Ngoc Dao, Head of the Serious Crimes Team of the Criminal Police Department, who directly participated in dismantling the theft gang, stated that the gang led by Teo "Rui" was extremely audacious. After stealing property and selling it to others, Teo "Rui" and his accomplices would even plan to steal again to sell and make money for their expenses.

For example, during the investigation, Teo "Rui" confessed that in early 2014, he and his accomplices stole two pythons from local residents on two separate occasions and sold them to Mr. Nguyen Van Hai (67 years old, residing in Thanh Thuong C hamlet, An Trach commune, Dong Hai district).

After two "transactions," Teo "Rui" noticed that Mr. Hai was raising many pythons, so he and his accomplices planned two more times to use bolt cutters to cut through the B40 wire mesh fence and break into Mr. Hai's python enclosure. They not only stole back the pythons they had sold, but also took an additional 12 pythons that Mr. Hai was raising, worth tens of millions of dong.
