Authorities dismantled a football betting ring generating over 1 billion VND per day.
The police in Buon Ma Thuot City (Dak Lak province) have just dismantled a football betting ring with transaction amounts exceeding 1 billion VND per day, and have temporarily detained 8 suspects.
After a period of surveillance, the Buon Ma Thuot City Police discovered a large-scale football betting ring and quickly planned to dismantle it.
By the early morning of July 4th, the Buon Ma Thuot City Police mobilized nearly 30 officers and soldiers, divided into 4 teams, to simultaneously arrest and search suspects at 4 locations and bring 9 related individuals to the police station for questioning.
Initially, the police identified Tran Quang Hieu (34 years old, residing in Tan Tien ward, Buon Ma Thuot city) as the ringleader of the operation.

Verification results show that, at the beginning of the Euro 2024 season, Hieu contacted an unidentified individual in Khanh Hoa province to purchase a football betting account.
After that, Hieu divided the account into 9 sub-accounts and distributed them to individuals in the gambling ring who organized betting on Euro 2024 football matches with gamblers.
To evade the police, after each match, the suspects would log out of the betting site; and simultaneously delete all messages on their phones and social media applications.
The police have determined that this gambling ring was involved in football betting transactions worth over 1 billion VND per day. Since the beginning of the Euro 2024 season, the total amount involved has exceeded 20 billion VND.
On the morning of July 6th, in an exchange with reporters, Lieutenant Colonel Huynh Thanh Binh - Head of the Buon Ma Thuot City Police - confirmed the information and stated that the unit had issued a decision to temporarily detain 8 individuals for investigation into the acts of "gambling" and "organizing gambling," and is urgently expanding the investigation to prosecute other related individuals.
