Breaking up a football betting ring worth over 1 billion VND/day

After a period of monitoring, Buon Ma Thuot City Police discovered a large-scale football betting ring and quickly planned to destroy it.

At dawn on July 4, Buon Ma Thuot City Police mobilized nearly 30 officers and soldiers divided into 4 teams to simultaneously arrest and search 4 locations and bring 9 related subjects to headquarters for questioning.

Initially, the police identified Tran Quang Hieu (34 years old, residing in Tan Tien ward, Buon Ma Thuot city) as the leader of the ring.

Verification results show that at the beginning of the Euro 2024 season, Hieu contacted an unknown person in Khanh Hoa province to buy a football betting account.

Hieu then divided it into 9 sub-accounts and assigned them to subjects in the ring to organize betting on Euro 2024 football matches with gamblers.

To deal with the police, after each match, the subjects will log out of the betting site; at the same time, delete all messages on their phones and social networking applications.

The police agency has clarified that this line transacts football betting with an amount of up to more than 1 billion VND per day. Since the beginning of the Euro 2024 season, it has been more than 20 billion VND.

On the morning of July 6, speaking to reporters, Lieutenant Colonel Huynh Thanh Binh - Head of Buon Ma Thuot City Police confirmed the above information and said that the unit had issued a decision to temporarily detain 8 subjects to investigate the acts of "gambling" and "organizing gambling", and was urgently expanding the investigation to handle related subjects.
