Ninh Binh Provincial Police, in coordination with the Criminal Police Department, dismantled a large-scale online gambling ring worth 900 billion VND, detaining 6 suspects during the 2026 World Cup.
The Criminal Investigation Agency (Criminal Police Department) of Ninh Binh Provincial Police, in coordination with functional units of the Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Public Security, has successfully dismantled a network involved in "Organizing gambling" and "Gambling" on the internet. The total transaction amount of this network reached over 900 billion VND.
Methods used to operate inter-provincial gambling rings.
Through intelligence gathering in the area, authorities discovered that Nguyen Van Hao (born in 1992) and Pham Xuan Thuy (born in 1989), both residing in Thai Nguyen province, were the ringleaders of this gambling operation. The suspects used a Super Master level football betting account named “JQK52” to organize their activities.
From this top-level account, the perpetrators divided it into many smaller accounts to distribute to gamblers "under their control" in Thai Nguyen province, Ninh Binh province, and many other locations nationwide. The use of advanced technology and hierarchical accounts allowed this network to expand rapidly and reach a large number of participants.
Transactions worth 350 billion VND were completed in a short period during the World Cup.
According to initial investigation documents, the total amount of money transacted by the suspects for gambling was over 900 billion VND. Notably, the activities of this ring increased dramatically since the 2026 World Cup.
Specifically, from June 12, 2026, until the time of their arrest, the total amount of money transacted in gambling by the suspects reached approximately 350 billion VND. Authorities have temporarily detained six individuals involved for further investigation.
Currently, the Ninh Binh Provincial Police Investigation Agency is continuing to coordinate with relevant agencies and units to expand the investigation into the case, clarify the actions of the suspects, and handle them strictly in accordance with the law.
