Authorities dismantled a large-scale gold smuggling ring bringing gold into Vietnam.
Economic police have just dismantled a ring that purchased US dollars, transferred them through Cambodia, and then used them to buy gold before bringing it back to Vietnam for resale.
On September 29, Lieutenant General To An Xo, spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Security, stated that this was a very large smuggling ring, operating over a long period of time, involving many suspects in various localities.
A day earlier, the Department of Investigation of Crimes related to Corruption, Economics, and Smuggling (C03, Ministry of Public Security), in coordination with other professional units and the police forces of Ho Chi Minh City and Tay Ninh, dismantled this network.

Police determined that on September 27th and 28th alone, this smuggling ring imported 198 kg of gold. Authorities seized 103 kg of gold, over $2.8 million, and 26.7 billion VND.
C03 stated that the mastermind of the ring has been identified, however, information about the suspects has not yet been released.
