Authorities busted a large-scale illegal gold smuggling operation across the Nghe An border.
On February 2nd, the Border Guard of Nghe An province apprehended a case of illegal gold smuggling across the border.
At approximately 10:20 AM on the same day, at the Thanh Thuy Border Gate Border Guard Station, the Operations Department and the Thanh Thuy Border Gate Border Guard Station, Nghe An Border Guard Command, in coordination with the Border Gate Customs, conducted an inspection of a Ford Ranger vehicle, license plate 37C-378.38, driven by Ho Van Thuy, born in 1992, residing in Quynh Son commune, Nghe An province.
Upon inspection, authorities discovered a yellow metal object hidden inside the engine's air filter housing, weighing approximately 263.16 grams, equivalent to about 7 taels of gold.
At the authorities' office, the suspect confessed that the gold was sifted during sand mining in Laos, then cast into ingots and hidden in a car for illegal transport into Vietnam for sale. The Provincial Border Guard Command directed the drafting of a report, and the suspect, vehicle, and evidence were temporarily detained to facilitate investigation and legal processing.
