North Korean media quoted leader Kim Jong-un as asserting that the new high-tech tactical weapon demonstrates the rapidly developing defensive capabilities of the North Korean military. This statement was made by Kim Jong-un after he personally supervised the testing of a weapon developed by Pyongyang itself.

According to South Korean news agency Yonhap, North Korean Central Television (KCTV) announced yesterday morning that a new tactical weapon, "researched and developed over a long period," had been successfully tested. However, the source did not provide specific details about the type of weapon tested.
This marks the first mention by North Korean media of a new development in the country's weapons program in months.
This also marks the first visit by North Korean leader Kim Jong-un to a test site since his unprecedented summit with US President Donald Trump in June 2018, when the two leaders agreed to cooperate toward denuclearization, for peace on the Korean Peninsula, and to establish new relations between the US and North Korea.
