North Korea has also established about 10 hacker support organizations with approximately 6,000 members, bringing the total number of personnel involved in cyberattacks to around 7,700.

North Korea began cyberattacking South Korea in 2009. From late February to early March last year, a hacking organization believed to be from North Korea attacked hundreds of smartphones belonging to South Korean diplomatic and security officials.

In their report, the two researchers urged the government to take necessary countermeasures, such as establishing organizations and mobilizing personnel specifically to deal with cyberattacks from North Korea.
