(Baonghean.vn) - On August 8, Vox news site reported that North Korea has repeatedly rejected the US proposal, which set an official timetable to start the process of Pyongyang cutting its arsenal by 60 to 70% within 8 months and transferring warheads to a third party.

In return, the US would lift economic sanctions and remove North Korea from the list of state sponsors of terrorism. Vox, citing two unnamed sources, added that US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had repeatedly proposed the plan to Kim Yong-chol, Vice Chairman of the Workers' Party of Korea, but was rejected.
Nearly two months after the historic meeting between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on June 12 in Singapore, denuclearization negotiations between the two sides have yielded almost no concrete results.
Immediately after the meeting, Mr. Trump wrote on Twitter that "there is no longer a Nuclear Threat from North Korea."
However, when testifying before the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee at the end of June, Mr. Pompeo admitted that Pyongyang was still producing nuclear materials, despite Mr. Kim Jong-un's commitment to denuclearization.
NBC quoted unnamed US officials as saying that US intelligence agencies also believe Pyongyang has increased production of fuel for nuclear weapons at multiple secret sites in recent months.
In an interview with Fox News on August 7, US National Security Advisor John Bolton said: "The US has complied with the Singapore Declaration. It is only North Korea that has not taken the steps that we feel are necessary to denuclearize." Mr. Bolton emphasized that the US will continue to apply economic pressure until Pyongyang has concrete results in denuclearization./.
