According to TASS on October 9, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported that the North Korean National Defense Academy conducted a test firing of 240 mm artillery shells for the multiple launch rocket system (MLRS).

On October 8, experts tested the reliability of the automatic firing system and the accuracy of the guided missile for the MLRS at a maximum range of 67 km. The ammunition was produced by defense enterprises under the Second Economic Commission of North Korea.

Earlier, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un visited a special forces training facility in the west of the country, declaring that North Korea would respond with nuclear weapons to attacks by South Korea and the United States.

In addition, North Korea also released images of a uranium enrichment facility for the first time, showing leader Kim Jong Un touring the site and calling for the production of more centrifuges to strengthen North Korea's nuclear arsenal.

In February 2024, North Korea announced that its National Defense Academy had developed a new 240 mm guided rocket; in May, it had "integrated an automatic firing command system" into the new rocket launcher with enhanced mobility and concentration of firepower.

In May 2024, KCNA reported that starting this year, North Korea will equip its military with a new 240mm multiple rocket launcher system, adding that the North Korean military will undergo "grave changes" in enhancing its artillery combat capabilities.
