Citing multiple South Korean military sources, Yonhap News Agency reported on April 24 that North Korea is deploying approximately 300 122mm multiple rocket launcher systems (MLRS) along its border with South Korea. These systems are capable of firing at Seoul and surrounding areas.

According to an anonymous source, Pyongyang began deploying these systems at the regimental level along the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) between the two Koreas since 2014, indicating an urgent need to counter the threat.

Meanwhile, another source suggests that with the aforementioned deployment, the number of MLRS and long-range artillery along the DMZ will exceed 600.

Many military experts believe that South Korea currently lacks the weapons to counter such a threat, and the only measure Seoul can use is a preemptive strike; however, this could trigger a conflict.

Meanwhile, the South Korean Ministry of Defense stated that it could not confirm whether Pyongyang had deployed 122mm MLRS, only emphasizing that countermeasures against such systems were included in the 2017-2021 defense plan.
