Cattle thief in Do Luong sentenced to 13 years in prison.

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of December 8th, the Trial Panel of the Nghe An Provincial People's Court issued a verdict against the defendants in the cattle theft ring led by Ngo Van Hung (born in 1996), residing in Dai Son commune, Do Luong district.

According to the indictment of the Provincial People's Procuracy, from January 1, 2014, Ngo Van Hung, Nguyen Van Huan, Nguyen Van Diem (all born in 1996), Nguyen Van Suu (born in 1997), Nguyen Van Hai (born in 1994) residing in Dai Son commune, Do Luong district; Nguyen Van Hung (born in 1995) residing in Hien Son commune; Truong Van Tien (born in 1988) residing in Nghi Van commune, Nghi Loc district; Nguyen Duc Danh (born in 1990) and Hoang Van Loi (born in 1989) residing in Nghi Kieu commune, Nghi Loc district, together committed 20 thefts, stealing 32 buffaloes and cows from households in Do Luong, Nghi Loc and Nghi Xuan districts (Ha Tinh province).

After stealing the buffaloes and cows, Hung called Nguyen Thuc Tien (born in 1985), Nguyen Thuc Hoi (born in 1983), and Nguyen Tho Tri (born in 1980), all residing in Dai Son (Do Luong), to bring a truck to transport them away for sale at only half their actual value. On December 9, 2014, Ngo Van Hung was arrested. Based on Hung's confession and investigative documents, the Do Luong District Police arrested the related individuals.

The valuation council of the Nghe An Provincial People's Committee and Do Luong District determined that the cattle stolen by the defendants were worth up to 901.5 million VND.

At the trial, the defendants sincerely confessed to their crimes. In this case, Ngo Van Hung was identified as the ringleader and was sentenced to 13 years in prison and ordered to compensate the victims 290 million VND.

Analyzing the roles of the remaining defendants, the court sentenced Nguyen Van Diem to 10 years in prison for theft and ordered him to compensate the victims 161 million VND; Nguyen Van Hung received 9 years in prison and was ordered to compensate 110 million VND; Nguyen Van Huan received 7 years in prison and was ordered to compensate 23 million VND; and Hoang Van Loi received 2 years in prison and was ordered to compensate 23 million VND. For the same crime, the remaining defendants in the case were sentenced to prison terms ranging from 9 to 24 months, but were given suspended sentences.
