Growing carrots, farmers earn hundreds of millions

(Baonghean.vn) -To the coastal vegetable area of ​​Quynh Lien (Hoang Mai town)Right at the time of the main carrot harvest, a bright yellow color spread across the fields.

This year, Quynh Lien commune has 40 hectares of carrots planted in coastal alluvial areas. Despite the impact of severe cold weather, carrots in Quynh Lien have a good harvest, with large, even roots and no pests or diseases. Carrots are grown in 3 crops: early crop from July to August; main crop from September to October and late crop from November to December. After 3 months, they can be harvested, with an average yield of 2-2.5 tons/sao.

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Luat's family in hamlet 4 grows more than 10 sao of carrots, with a yield of over 2 tons/sao. He excitedly said:

"The investment cost for one sao of carrots is about 2.5 million VND. After deducting expenses, the family earns 275 million VND. This winter, carrots have a good harvest and good prices, so the family is very happy. After the harvest, we prepare the land and continue to plant late-season carrots."

Carrots are purchased by traders in the fields and transported to the Hanoi market for consumption.

Currently, the main carrot crop in Quynh Lien has almost finished harvesting, the selling price has dropped to 5,000 VND/kg, 1 hectare brings in an income of 200 million VND. Farmers actively apply technical advances in production, so carrots grow and develop stably, with high quality.

The local government always creates favorable conditions for traders to purchase directly, helping farmers reduce transportation costs and feel secure in production. In the commune, there are currently about 20 establishments purchasing and processing carrots for export to other places.
