Growing dry celery in greenhouses for high income

This is the third crop, Mr. Ho Trong Hai in hamlet 4, Quynh Luong commune continues to grow dry water celery right in the field. This type of vegetable only likes to live underwater or in cool temperatures, but when cultivated in dry fields and through his care, water celery grows well, giving high yields.

Mr. Hai said that his family has 4 sao of land to produce commercial vegetables. After researching some vegetable varieties online for cultivation, he decided to bring dry watercress to grow on an area of ​​nearly 1 sao. Because the vegetable prefers cool weather, he applied the technique of using net cover to cultivate. Through experimental planting and results, he affirmed that this vegetable can be promoted and widely spread in the locality.

"The locality has an advantage in producing a variety of commercial vegetables, however, some types are not yet widely available on the market, so I researched and brought dry celery seeds to grow. After two cropping seasons, the celery grew well and was sold out by the companies that contacted it when it was time to harvest," said Mr. Hai.

To grow dry celery at an altitude of 35 - 37 degrees Celsius, Mr. Hai's family invested tens of millions of dong to buy iron tube frames, protective nets above and dozens of automatic watering pipes. After completing the land preparation and sowing, it can be harvested after about 50 days.

Currently, Mr. Hai's dry celery garden is starting to harvest, with a yield of 2 tons/sao. Because this is a difficult vegetable to grow in the summer, the supply is very scarce; currently, celery is priced from 23,000 - 25,000 VND/kg, so when the harvest is finished, he will earn about 40 million VND/crop. Each year, he can produce celery 3 - 4 crops.

In Quynh Luong commune, many households are gradually getting used to the model of growing water celery in greenhouses, including Mr. Ngo Quang Tien's household, who earns about 70 - 80 million VND per year from this vegetable variety.

Through evaluation, dried celery has an economic value 3-4 times higher than other vegetable varieties. To be successful, many vegetable growers have applied new techniques and production processes to improve efficiency per unit area./.
