First referee faces punishment in V-League 2017
The referee board proposed to stop assigning duties to referee Duc Vu due to a confusing situation in the match between Hanoi and Quang Ninh on the afternoon of January 7.
“The referee board has reviewed the video. We have made a proposal on how to handle the situation and sent it to the VFF for approval. We will not announce the penalty, that is the principle,” head of the referee board Nguyen Van Mui told VnExpress.
In the 89th minute of the match between Hanoi and Quang Ninh, Jardel rushed in to receive a high ball and was pulled down slightly in the penalty area. Referee Duc Vu blew the whistle, pointing to the penalty spot. Quang Ninh fans present at Hang Day Stadium danced with joy. However, immediately after, the referee signaled that it was a goal kick by Hanoi. Jardel held his head, looked up to the sky to express his disappointment. Not awarded a penalty, Quang Ninh lost 2-3 in the opening match of the 2017 season.

After the match, referee Duc Vu said that in that situation, he pointed to Hanoi to kick the ball up, because it was towards the 11m mark, which caused a misunderstanding. This referee explained that Jardel may have deliberately fallen to get a penalty. In the first half, this foreign player had several situations like that.
Referees will not be disciplined for errors in judging whether or not to award a penalty. However, due to his lack of decisiveness, referee Duc Vu may not be assigned to officiate four rounds.
