The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs proposes that each household should strive to have at least one member working abroad.

It is expected that in October, the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs will submit a proposal to the Government on policies for vocational training and job retraining for fishermen in the four North Central provinces affected by the marine environmental incident.

Mr. Pham Minh Huan, Deputy Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, recently stated this in an interview with Vietnam National Radio in Da Nang.

Mr. Pham Minh Huan stated that the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs is coordinating with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to survey the labor situation in the coastal areas of the four North Central provinces affected by the recent marine environmental incident.

According to Mr. Huan, if fishermen do not go fishing, they can pursue other occupations that suit their conditions and can increase their income; in particular, the Ministry proposes that each family should strive to have at least one person working abroad. This is a way to help these families have better conditions to stabilize their lives.

The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs has implemented support in accordance with the Prime Minister's Decision on emergency assistance for people in the provinces of Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Thua Thien Hue.

Mr. Pham Minh Huan, Deputy Minister of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, said: "In the overall impact on fishermen, we must categorize which groups can switch professions and which cannot. Because people of that age cannot switch professions, we must have policies to support them, and we must carefully consider what kind of support is needed."

Besides the compensation policy, the policy for supporting people's lives afterward is a very big issue that needs to be discussed comprehensively. In addition to Formosa's compensation, we need to calculate specifics to present to the Government. We are currently working on this.
