Has Nazi leader Hitler reappeared after 70 years in hiding?

A 128-year-old man living in Salta, Argentina, has claimed to be the German Nazi leader Adolf Hitler. He decided to come out into the open after 70 years in hiding.

According to Sputnik, the old man's statement coincided with the discovery of a treasure hoard belonging to Nazi leader Hitler in Argentina.

In an interview with local media, the elderly German immigrant explained that he arrived in Argentina in 1945 with a fake passport issued by the Gestapo at the end of World War II. The passport listed his name as Herman Guntherberg.

The old man who identified himself as Hitler said that his decision to abandon his hiding place stemmed from the fact that the Israeli secret service Mossad officially abandoned its policy of hunting down Nazi war criminals in 2016.

This self-proclaimed Hitler also expressed his intention to publish an autobiography in September to "restore his image" in the public eye.

"I was burdened with many crimes I never committed. Because of that, I spent half my life hiding from the Jews, and I also suffered punishment. I was portrayed as a bad person because we lost that war. When people take my side in that story, they will change the way they think about me," he said.

Few people believed the old man's story. However, earlier reports claimed that the Nazi leader had fled to Latin America like many other members of the Nazi party after the war ended, despite mainstream historians worldwide claiming that Hitler committed suicide on April 30, 1945, in the Führerbunker, Berlin.

In July 2016, Abel Basti published a revised version of his book "Hitler in Exile." The author stated that Hitler had defected to Argentina, lived there for 10 years, and then moved to Paraguay under the patronage of the dictator Alfredo Stroessner. According to Basti, Hitler died on February 3, 1971, in Paraguay.

A few days after the announcement, Argentine police found a cache of Nazi artifacts in a house in Beccar, Buenos Aires. This is likely the largest cache of Hitler's wealth ever found in the country's history.

Argentine Security Minister Patricia Bullrich said that some of the items came with photos, including one of Hitler with a magnifying glass that had never been publicly released.
