Trump unexpectedly accuses Obama of being behind the protests.

President Trump said Barack Obama was the "mastermind" behind the angry protests that erupted at Republican town halls across the United States.

The accusation was made by Mr. Trump during an interview on Fox News' Fox and Friends program.

"I think he's behind it," the new US president said when asked about Obama's role in the protests. "I also think it's politics. That's how it plays out."

Donald Trump then mentioned the leaks that occurred during his first month in office.

"You never know exactly what's going on behind the scenes. You know, you could be right, but you never know," the new White House occupant said.

"I think President Obama is behind it. Because his people are definitely behind it, and some of the leaks could be coming from that group, some of the leaks – really serious leaks because they’re very bad in terms of national security – but I also understand it’s politics… And this could go on."

However, Donald Trump has not provided any evidence for his claim.

Earlier this month, the US president told Fox News that information about his calls with the leaders of Australia and Mexico was leaked by "Obama's people."
