"They always said I was too weak for Putin. They wanted me to have a boxing match with him,"Sputnik"I think I'll do very well," US President Donald Trump said at a rally in Minnesota.
Trump made the statement while criticizing the way the US media described the summit between him and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki, Finland in July.
Amid cheers from his supporters, the US President continued to condemn the "fake news" media. "With Russia, they say I'm too soft. But with North Korea, they say I'm too tough," Trump said. "If I was really tough on Russia, they'd say 'he's too tough.' They're crazy."
During a joint press conference with Putin in Helsinki, Trump declared that he believed Putin's assertion that Russia did not interfere in the 2016 US presidential election. Trump was later harshly criticized by the US media, which said he was "weak and humble" towards his Russian counterpart Putin when he appeared to trust Moscow more than US intelligence agencies.
