China investigated more than 54,000 officials in 2015.
According to THX, in a report published on January 24, Wang Qishan, head of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China (CCDI), stated that in 2015, more than 54,000 officials were investigated for bribery, dereliction of duty, and other offenses related to their positions.
According to Wang Qishan's summary report on his duties at the sixth plenary session of the CCDI on January 12, courts nationwide concluded on more than 20,000 cases, including 16,000 cases related to bribery and embezzlement of public funds and 4,300 cases of negligence of duty.
Authorities received over 2.8 million reports and disciplined approximately 336,000 officials for disciplinary violations. Ninety central government officials were investigated for disciplinary offenses, 42 of whom were handed over to the judicial authorities for criminal investigation.
In addition, the CCDI has investigated 49,000 officials for violations of regulations against extravagance and waste, of which 34,000 have been publicly named.
The agency also dealt decisively with internal corruption, with 2,479 disciplinary inspectors being punished in 2015.
China has also revealed details of its "Operation Sky Net," which resulted in the extradition of 1,023 fugitives abroad and the recovery of 3 billion yuan (approximately $461.5 million).
