(Baonghean.vn) - Born and raised in a remote village in the highlands, where the number of poor households is over 72%, the village chief with 100% Khmu ethnic group in Nghe An is determined to call on people to rise up and escape poverty by his own exemplary role and pioneering role in raising livestock and cultivating crops.

In the last days of May, the Head of Hin Pen village, Bao Nam commune, Ky Son district - Mr. Cut Pho Anh is present at his family's production area every day. Mr. Cut Pho Anh said that this is the time to harvest spring rice and cassava, so he has to stay in the fields.

During the peak harvest days, he slept in a hut next to the field and did not return home. Because his family's production area was nearly a half hour walk from home, climbing over two hills and a stream.

“The road to the motorbike manufacturing area is not passable yet, you can only walk. At the end of April, the villagers focused on leveling the ground and repairing the sections that collapsed into the abyss after the flood at the beginning of the year, so it is less bumpy,” said Mr. Cut Pho Anh.

Located in a basin surrounded by mountains, Mr. Cut Pho Anh's production area is only over 1 hectare wide. However, with the sloping terrain, he arranges a rice field, the rest is used to grow corn, cassava and raise cows, chickens and geese.

In the 2023 spring rice crop, thanks to proactive water sources, the yield will reach about 3 quintals/sao, enough food for the family to use all year round.

The head of Hin Pen village said: "I sold my cow to buy a few hundred meters of water pipes from the stream to irrigate the rice fields. Therefore, with nearly half a hectare of rice, this year, despite the drought, the yield is higher than last year, nearly 10 bags."

In addition to growing rice, the village chief of the Khmu ethnic group in this remote area also personally digs the land, levels the fields to grow cassava, corn and raises cattle with a herd of 6-8 cows.

Secretary of the Hin Pen Party Cell Ven Pho Khut said: “For the Hin Pen people, a household with fertile fields that provide enough food all year round, and a herd of nearly ten cows, is considered rich, a dream asset for many families. The village chief as well as the Hin Pen Party Cell always require party members to be exemplary in their hard work to set an example for the people to follow. If we want to motivate people to work hard, we must show them the results first.”

Mr. Ven Pho Khut added: The Secretary also tries to develop the economy so that people will trust and follow. Currently, the family has 6 cows, and also cultivates cassava and corn fields. The cassava in Bao Nam is mainly native cassava, which takes more than a year to harvest, and sells for about 100,000 VND/basket. Although it is only consumed locally and in neighboring communes, this is also a significant income for households.

Hin Pen Party Cell has 20 party members, almost every household has cows and fields. Hin Pen has more than 90 households, most of them are poor, so in addition to being pioneers in economic development, party members also join hands to help poor households rise up.

In 2022, Hin Pen Party Cell members contributed money to buy a breeding goat as a gift for Mr. Cut Pho Hien's family. Mr. Hien and his wife were often sick and were unable to work. Thanks to the help of breeding goats, the goat has now given birth to 2 kids. From these 2 goats, 2 more kids are about to be born. Thanks to that, in 2023, Mr. Cut Pho Hien's family will no longer be poor.

Seeing the village officials doing business effectively and seeing that hard work will help them escape poverty, many households in Hin Pen are excited to follow suit.

In addition to being a pioneer in "setting an example" in production and animal husbandry, Village Chief Cut Pho Anh is also the one who holds hands and guides people on techniques for taking care of crops and animals to ensure efficiency.

"Therefore, people are very confident and feel secure in following the instructions of the village officials. People are willing to support the policies of the commune and village in economic development. For example, when calling for the construction of roads to the production area, every household sent someone to go. Some households had both husband and wife participating. The Secretary and Village Chief were the ones who went the earliest and returned the latest to encourage people to work enthusiastically, both to help their families and to help people have more will to rise up and escape poverty" - Mr. Ven Pho Khut confided.
