Vinh Medical University celebrates its 60th anniversary and receives the Emulation Flag from the Prime Minister.

On the afternoon of November 7th, Vinh Medical University solemnly held a ceremony to celebrate its 60th anniversary (1960-2020) and to commemorate the 38th anniversary of Vietnamese Teachers' Day (November 20th, 1982 - November 20th, 2020).

Attending the ceremony were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Minh Son - Deputy Minister of Education and Training; and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Vu Trung - Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology and Training, Ministry of Health.

Representing Nghe An province were: Mr. Nguyen Van Thong - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Mr. Nguyen Xuan Son - Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; and Mr. Nguyen Duc Trung - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.

The members of the Provincial Party Standing Committee include: Le Duc Cuong - Head of the Provincial Party Organization Department; Bui Thanh An - Chairman of the Provincial Party Inspection Committee; Nguyen Ngoc Ha - Commander of the Provincial Military Command; and Bui Dinh Long - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.

Also attending were former provincial leaders from various periods; representatives from provincial departments and agencies; hospitals and practical training units of Vinh Medical University; medical and pharmaceutical universities nationwide; colleges and universities in Nghe An province; and generations of lecturers and students of the university.

GLORIOUS TRADITION

Speech by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Canh Phu - Secretary of the Party Committee, RectorVinh Medical UniversityThe presentation reviewed the 60-year tradition of the school's development and growth.

Accordingly, on September 8, 1960, the Minister of Health signed Decision No. 504/BYT/QD establishing the Nghe An Medical School, the predecessor of Vinh Medical University today, and authorized the Nghe An Provincial Administrative Committee to manage it, marking a memorable event in the history of education and the revolutionary health sector of Vietnam.

Over 60 years of formation and development, from the Nghe An Medical School with its initially very modest scale, it has now become the spacious and modern Vinh Medical University with a large team of capable, intelligent, dedicated, and committed staff and lecturers, including many Outstanding Educators, Outstanding Physicians, Associate Professors, and Doctors; many teachers have been recognized as excellent teachers at the provincial and national levels.

Vinh Medical University has also trained nearly 50,000 medical professionals, many of whom, including students and staff who have studied and worked at the university, have made valuable contributions to the overall development of the province.

In addition, the school has focused on providing medical examination and treatment services to the people at Vinh University Medical Center Hospital, and has developed specialization in several traditional strengths such as: Cardiology, Otolaryngology, and Pharmacy.

Vinh Medical University has been awarded many prestigious honors such as: the Second Class Labor Medal (2011); 3 Third Class Labor Medals (1963, 1969, 1992); the Military Merit Medal (1965); and numerous flags and certificates of merit from the Government, the Ministry of Education and Training, the Ministry of Health, and Nghe An province.

DEVELOPING INTO A REPUTABLE AND BRANDED CENTER FOR MEDICAL SCIENCE

To ensure the continued sustainable development of Vinh Medical University, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Duc Trung requested that the university's leadership, faculty, and staff inherit and build upon the achievements already made. He emphasized the leadership role of the Party Committee and implemented democratic mechanisms and internal unity to create consensus and mobilize the maximum intellect and dedication of the staff, faculty, and employees to build and develop Vinh Medical University into a multi-disciplinary, multi-level training institution that meets the needs for medical human resources, contributing to the protection, care, and improvement of people's health; prioritizing quality; and gradually developing into a reputable and well-branded center of medical science.

The school needs to continue to genuinely improve the quality of its teaching staff, gradually building the reputation of its faculty to truly play a leading role in professional development for the medical science community in the province in particular and the North Central region in general.

Develop mechanisms and promote the attraction of personnel, utilizing the scientific staff in all provincial-level hospitals for training and teaching at the school, as well as for additional management roles in the school's departments.

Furthermore, the university needs to continue researching and applying advanced management models, linking training and scientific research tasks with the practical needs of society. It should focus on innovating and improving the quality of training and teaching methods in a modern direction; promoting active participation, initiative, and creativity; and enhancing students' knowledge, skills, practical abilities, and self-learning capacity with the motto "learner-centered" to meet the needs of society after graduation.

Strengthening the potential for scientific and technological research, including human resources and infrastructure; socializing scientific research activities and healthcare services for the people.

Simultaneously, the university needs to focus on promoting the quality and building the brand of Vinh Medical University; expanding cooperative relationships and international cooperation with universities and organizations in the field of medicine both domestically and internationally to strengthen training, scientific research, attract financial resources and high-quality human resources, and promote applied research and technology transfer.

Simultaneously, in coordination with the Health sector, a specific plan will be developed for the implementation of the University Hospital model; the Vinh University Medical Center will continue to build and develop a complete University Hospital with all basic departments and wards; it will have modern medical facilities and equipment, gradually developing specialized expertise and techniques, developing the hospital's brand, and improving the quality of medical examination and treatment to meet the training, scientific research, and development needs of the university.

Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Duc Trung expressed his wish that the students and trainees of the school would strive to study well, constantly cultivate their character and willpower to excel. During their studies, they should strengthen their training and develop their professional skills and ethics, as well as their thinking skills and life skills.

The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also requested that Party committees, governments at all levels, and departments and agencies continue to pay attention, provide the best resources, and advise the Provincial People's Committee on mechanisms and policies to promptly resolve difficulties and obstacles, creating favorable conditions to leverage the advantages of Vinh Medical University, contributing to the training of high-quality medical personnel to serve the socio-economic development of the province.

Comrade Nguyen Duc Trung expressed his confidence that, with the efforts and determination of the leadership, teachers, staff, and employees of the school, Vinh Medical University will build upon its achievements, continue to make even more outstanding and sustainable progress in the coming time, meeting the needs of high-quality medical human resources for the province and contributing to making Vinh city a high-tech medical center in the North Central region.

On this occasion, on behalf of the provincial leadership, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Duc Trung extended his gratitude and best wishes on Vietnamese Teachers' Day (November 20th) to all generations of teachers, officials, and staff who have worked and are currently working in the education sector. He also wished the leadership, officials, staff, lecturers, and employees of Vinh Medical University to successfully complete all assigned tasks and continue to make positive contributions to the education and health sector of the province.
