(Baonghean.vn) - In order to preserve and promote the folk song heritage of Nghe An province, in 2014 Hoa Son Secondary School in Anh Son district incorporated folk songs into daily break time activities and in both in-class and extracurricular lessons.

This is the first school in the mountainous district of Anh Son to implement this activity, which has made a special impact, helping students appreciate and cherish folk songs, and contributing to shaping the increasingly distorted musical tastes of young people today.

Present at Hoa Son Secondary School during a break time activity, we were surprised to see the sweet and profound folk melodies about the homeland and people of Nghe An province being sung and danced gracefully by the students throughout the school.

Tran Van Linh, a 9th-grade student from Hoa Son Secondary School, shared that thanks to daily exposure to folk songs, more than 280 students at Hoa Son Secondary School now know how to sing folk songs and love them even more.

Ms. Tran Thi Thu Hien, Principal of Hoa Son Secondary School, said: "With the aim of igniting a passion for singing and a love for folk songs among students, thereby preserving and promoting the unique identity of Nghe An folk songs, in 2014 the school incorporated Nghe An folk songs into daily break time activities and extracurricular and in-class activities. Initially, we faced many difficulties, but with the enthusiastic support of parents and the students' passion, this activity has been very successful. Now, it has become a traditional and indispensable part of the school's break time activities throughout the week. In addition, during extracurricular activities, the school's Board of Directors directly instructed the Literature Department to organize extracurricular activities through folk song clubs and folk song festivals on holidays."

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Linh, Deputy Head of the Education and Training Department of Anh Son District: In Anh Son District, Hoa Son Secondary School is the first school to incorporate Nghe An folk songs into extracurricular activities during break time, and it has made a special impact. In the 2017-2018 school year, the Education and Training Department of Anh Son District has planned and directed 22 primary schools and 19 secondary schools in the district to include folk songs in their extracurricular activities.

Introducing folk songs into schools is not simply about teaching them, but about helping students recognize the immense value of folk songs, thereby fostering their appreciation and love for them. Furthermore, incorporating folk songs into school curricula will contribute to guiding and inspiring a love and passion for this precious heritage of their homeland among the younger generation, especially students currently in school.
