Authorities are searching for the man who threatened rice harvesters with a sword and attacked a police officer.
On the morning of October 5th, Colonel Dinh Xuan Thiep, Deputy Director of the Yen Bai Provincial Police, visited Major Luong Van Chien, Head of the Tan Huong Commune Police Station in Yen Binh District, at the Yen Bai Provincial General Hospital to inquire about his condition after he was injured while on duty.
Earlier, at approximately 3:30 PM on October 4th, the Tan Huong Commune Police received a report from the public that in Khe May village, Tan Huong commune, Yen Binh district, an individual named Luc Van Dong, born in 1979 and residing in Khe May village, was threatening people with a sword to prevent them from harvesting rice.
The task force, led by Major Luong Van Chien, Head of Tan Huong Commune Police, along with 3 other commune police officers and security forces from Khe May village, arrived to handle the incident.
However, at this point, Lu Van Hung, born in 1975, residing in Khe May village (the older brother of Lu Van Dong), threatened and verbally abused the task force with a knife. The task force ordered Hung to put down the knife, but he refused to comply. Officer Chien then fired a rubber bullet into the air as a warning, demanding that Hung cease his threatening behavior. However, Hung refused to comply and instead attacked the task force with the knife.
At the same time, Lu Van Dong ran down from the hill, wielding a sword approximately 1.5 meters long, and slashed Major Luong Van Chien in the back and neck. Afterwards, the two suspects, still carrying their weapons, fled towards the hill behind the house.
Currently, the Yen Binh District Police are coordinating with other functional forces and the Provincial Police to pursue and apprehend the suspects.
Immediately after the incident, Major Luong Van Chien was taken to the commune's health station for first aid. He is currently being treated at Yen Bai Provincial General Hospital, and his injuries are no longer life-threatening.
