While apprehending criminals, two police officers had to undergo treatment for potential HIV exposure.
When being pursued by the police, the HIV-infected suspect used a piece of broken glass to cut himself, then scratched and bit the officers.
On December 30th, the Quang Xuong District Police (Thanh Hoa province) announced that they have initiated a criminal case for receiving stolen property and arrested Nguyen Van Hung (40 years old, residing in Dong Tan commune, Thanh Hoa city).
Earlier, on December 25th, when police were attempting to arrest him, Hung resisted fiercely. He used a piece of broken glass to cut his hand, causing it to bleed, and then scratched and bit two police officers.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Tien Dung, Deputy Head of the Quang Xuong District Police, the district police had previously identified and arrested Mai Van Thang (32 years old, residing in Quang Linh commune, Quang Xuong district) as the suspect in the motorcycle theft at the Quang Linh commune health station.
After stealing the motorbike, Thang took it to sell to Hung. When the Quang Xuong District Police expanded their investigation and proceeded with the arrest, Hung bit two police officers. Currently, the two officers have been exposed to HIV and are undergoing treatment.
It is known that Thang is a specialist in stealing property from trucks parked along National Highway 1A and is also infected with HIV.
The incident is currently under investigation.
