Wanted supercar smuggling boss
A smuggling boss and his accomplices imported 18 supercars and fled when their accomplices were caught.
On January 28, the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department announced that it had just completed the investigation conclusion, proposing to prosecute Tran Van Bang (born 1987), Bui Le Viet Khoi (born 1983) and 14 other accomplices for the crime of "Smuggling".
From the beginning of 2012 to June 2013, Helena Pham (a Vietnamese American, wanted), Bang, Khoi and accomplices took advantage of the policy of importing used cars under the movable property regime of Vietnamese overseas to make car import documents.
Taking advantage of the policy, Helena Pham smuggled many supercars.
Helena Pham and her accomplices smuggled 18 cars under the program of overseas Vietnamese repatriating to their homeland.
The verification and collection of documents at the Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department revealed that there were 18 import records of overseas Vietnamese importing valuable cars such as Land Rover, Lexus, Audi, BMW, Toyota... that were not in accordance with regulations with a total value of nearly 17 billion VND.
Also according to the conclusion, the total tax paid is 9.8 billion VND and the total tax payable if not exempted from some other taxes that the subjects must pay to the State is 36 billion VND.
In this case, there was help from some police officers, customs officers and notary office chief. Currently, Helana Pham is wanted, when arrested will be dealt with later.
