Prosecution of 2 suspects who used guns to rob more than 2.2 billion VND at the highway toll station
Two masked men broke into the toll station's accounting room, used knives and guns to control the staff, then robbed a total of nearly 2.2 billion VND and escaped.
On May 28, the People's Procuracy of Dong Nai province completed the indictment to prosecute Nguyen Vu Hoang Nam (born 1990), from Nam Dinh province, and Tran Tuan Anh (born 1993), residing in District 2, Ho Chi Minh City, for the crime of "Robbery".
According to the indictment, Nam and Tuan Anh were both employees of the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway Toll Station located in Thong Nhat District, Dong Nai Province, but had quit their jobs.
After discussing, on February 4, Nam and Tuan Anh bought a motorbike with license plate 51 Y1-8975 and went online to buy a pellet gun, a bag of pellets, and 2 knives, a pry bar, a hammer, a screwdriver, pliers... to use as tools to commit the crime.
At around 7:00 a.m. on February 7, the third day of Tet, two masked men broke into the toll station's accounting office, used knives and guns to control the employees, then robbed a total of nearly 2.2 billion VND and escaped.

Tuan Anh hid in a rubber plantation, while Nam drove to another area to change shoes, clothes, and used gasoline to burn the gun, bullets, weapons, and other items to destroy evidence.
Nam carried a backpack of money to the Long Khanh Regional General Hospital, then went to Ba Ria - Vung Tau province to ask a friend to keep 500 million VND for him, then continued to Ho Chi Minh City to ask 2 acquaintances to keep a total of more than 1 billion VND. Nam also used the stolen money to buy 10 taels of gold worth nearly 400 million VND.

When the two agreed to meet at the Eastern Bus Station and went to Saigon Station to escape, they were arrested by the police at 11 p.m. the same day. After the two robbers were arrested, Dong Nai Police recovered more than 1.7 billion VND and returned it to the toll station.
The investigation agency is temporarily holding the gold worth nearly 400 million VND to ensure execution of the sentence. The remaining amount of more than 100 million VND, Nam said during the escape, he spent it for personal use and lost a part of it so he has not been able to recover it.
