Two suspects prosecuted for using a gun to rob over 2.2 billion VND at a highway toll station.
Two masked individuals broke into the toll station's accounting office, used knives and guns to threaten staff, stole a total of nearly 2.2 billion VND, and escaped.
On May 28th, the People's Procuracy of Dong Nai province completed the indictment against Nguyen Vu Hoang Nam (born in 1990), from Nam Dinh province, and Tran Tuan Anh (born in 1993), residing in District 2, Ho Chi Minh City, for the crime of "Robbery".
According to the indictment, Nam and Tuan Anh were both employees of the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway toll station located in Thong Nhat district, Dong Nai province, but had resigned.
After discussing it, on February 4th, Nam and Tuan Anh bought a motorbike with license plate 51 Y1-8975 and went online to buy a BB gun, a bag of BB pellets, and also bought two knives, a truncheon, a hammer, a screwdriver, pliers, etc., to use as tools for committing crimes.
At approximately 7:00 AM on February 7th, the third day of the Lunar New Year, two masked individuals broke into the accounting office of a toll station, using knives and guns to threaten staff before robbing a total of nearly 2.2 billion VND and escaping.

Tuan Anh hid in a rubber plantation, while Nam drove to another area to change his shoes and clothes, and used gasoline to burn the gun, BB pellets, weapons, and other items to destroy the evidence.
Nam, carrying a backpack full of money, ran to the Long Khánh Regional General Hospital, then to Bà Rịa - Vũng Tàu province, where he entrusted 500 million VND to a friend. He then continued to Ho Chi Minh City, where he asked two acquaintances to hold over 1 billion VND for him. Nam also used the stolen money to buy 10 taels of gold worth nearly 400 million VND.

When the two arranged to meet at the Eastern Bus Station and planned to escape to Saigon Railway Station, they were apprehended by the police at 11 PM that same day. After the two robbers were arrested, the Dong Nai Police recovered over 1.7 billion VND and returned it to the toll station.
The investigating agency is temporarily holding gold worth nearly 400 million VND to ensure the execution of the sentence. Regarding the remaining amount of over 100 million VND, Nam claimed that he spent some of it on personal expenses while on the run and lost a portion, so it has not been recovered yet.
