Hundreds of bottles of diluted pesticide were infused into the banyan tree to help prevent it from being damaged by termites.

Named 'Pillalamarri' or 'Peerla Marri', the 700-year-old banyan tree in Mahabubnagar, Telangana state, is spread over an area of over 12,000 sq m.2. This is the world's second-largest banyan tree and a popular tourist attraction in India. However, due to its age, the tree has been under heavy attack from termites, causing some of its largest branches to rot. Since December last year, people have been asked to stay away from the tree while authorities try to find a way to save it.

The banyan tree is transmitted like a person.

According toOdity CentralInitially, experts injected a powerful pesticide called Chlorpyrifos into termite-eaten holes in the trees, but it was ineffective. So they decided to inject tanks of Chlorpyrifos directly into the trees.into the tree trunk using a needle system. This method has been shown to be effective.

"We diluted the Chlorpyrifos solution and injected it into the holes in the tree trunks but to no avail. Then we directly infused the chemical into the trees like we infuse water into our bodies," Chukka Ganga Reddy, district forest officer of Mahabubnagar, toldTimes of India.

Reddy said the branches absorbed the solution after being infused for 10 to 14 hours. This method helps the pesticide to be distributed throughout the tree.

Photos of the “strange patient” being given hundreds of vials of the solution have caused a stir on Indian social media. Many people said they were surprised that the method of treating termites by IV was effective.

"The condition of the tree is stable now. We are hoping that in a few days, it will be back to normal. We also plan to open this attraction for people to admire, after discussing with higher officials. But this time, visitors will have to stand outside the fence to see the tree from a distance," Mr. Reddy said.
