From January 1, 2018, vaccination is mandatory for 10 infectious diseases.

The Minister of Health has issued Circular 38/2017/TT-BYT stipulating the list of infectious diseases, scope and subjects required to use mandatory vaccines and medical biological products, effective from January 1, 2018.

According to the circular, the infectious diseases and vaccines that are mandatory in the expanded immunization program, applicable to children from newborn to 5 years old, include 10 diseases: hepatitis B, tuberculosis, diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, polio, Haemophilus influenzae type B disease, measles, Japanese encephalitis B, and rubella.

Of these, two vaccines are mandatory for newborns (hepatitis B vaccine administered within the first 24 hours after birth and tuberculosis vaccine administered once within the first month after birth).

According to the list in Circular 38, the cholera vaccine is no longer included in the list of mandatory vaccinations for young children.
