From November 1: Change traffic signs prohibiting turns and U-turns
From November 1, Circular 06/2016/TT-BGTVT issued on April 8, 2016 on National Technical Regulations on Road Signs will come into effect. Notably, there are changes in the content of regulations of some traffic signs.
Accordingly, the regulations on no left turn and no right turn signs, Circular 06/2016/TT-BGTVT stipulates as follows:
"To prohibit left or right turns (in the direction of the arrow) at intersections, sign P.123a "No left turn" or sign P.123b "No right turn" must be placed.The sign has no value prohibiting U-turns.".
Circular 72/2012/TT-BGTVT (replaced by Circular 06 and will expire on November 1) regulates this sign and states: If a no left turn sign is placed, vehicles are not allowed to make a U-turn.

Thus, according to the new regulations in Circular 06, from November 1, signs prohibiting left and right turns will no longer include prohibiting U-turns.
Regarding the prohibition of U-turns, Circular 06/2016/TT-BGTVT has added new traffic signs with the following specific regulations: "No left turn and U-turn", "No right turn and U-turn", "No left turn and U-turn" and "No right turn and U-turn".

Sign P.124a prohibits all types of vehicles (motorized and non-motorized) and sign P.124b prohibits cars and three-wheeled motorbikes (side cars) from making a U-turn (in a U-shape) except for vehicles with priority as prescribed. |
Accordingly, to prohibit vehicles from making U-turns (in the shape of a U), sign P.124a "No U-turn" must be placed. The direction of the arrow must match the direction of the prohibited U-turn.
To prohibit U-turns for cars, sign P.124b "No U-turns for cars" must be placed. The direction of the arrow must match the direction of the prohibition for U-turns.
To prohibit left turns and U-turns, sign P.124c “No left turns and U-turns” must be placed.
To prohibit vehicles from turning right and making a U-turn, sign P.124d “No right turn and U-turn” must be placed.
To prohibit left turns and U-turns for cars, sign P.124e “No left turns and U-turns for cars” must be placed.
To prohibit right turns and U-turns for cars, sign P.124f “No left turns and U-turns for cars” must be placed.
Sign P.124a prohibits all types of vehicles (motorized and non-motorized) and sign P.124b prohibits cars and three-wheeled motorbikes (side cars) from making a U-turn (in a U-shape) except for vehicles with priority as prescribed.The sign does not prohibit left turns to go to another road.
If a "No U-turn" or "No U-turn for cars" sign is placed on a road section that is not an intersection, the starting position of the prohibition must use sign number S.503d "Direction of effect of sign" placed below the main sign.
Before or after the locations of no-turn signs, there must be signs indicating the turning position number I.409 or I.410.
