After working as a factory worker, Vi Van Hao decided to go to Hanoi to study foreign languages to work abroad. However, when he saw that there were many drug addicts in his neighborhood, he had the idea of going back to his hometown to buy drugs to sell for profit. When his actions were exposed, Hao not only lost his dream of going abroad but also lost his youth in prison.

Drug trafficking sprung up when he saw many addicts.

The trial of defendant Vi Van Hao (32 years old), residing in Muong Noc commune, Que Phong district, for the crime of illegal drug trafficking took place quite quickly when the defendant admitted to the crime. However, the young man's downfall made many people regretful. Just because of temporary greed, the young man extinguished his dream of going abroad. Not only that, because of being involved in drugs, Hao had to pay a high price for his life.

The origin of Vi Van Hao's crime came from the time he went to Hanoi to study foreign languages to export labor to Taiwan in early 2024. During the language learning process, Hao saw that there were many drug addicts around the boarding house area, so he had the idea of returning to his hometown to buy drugs to sell.

In August 2024, Hao returned home to visit, but the thought of bringing drugs to Hanoi to sell was still lingering in his mind. Instead of putting aside that wrong thought, Hao chose to enter the path of drug trafficking.

On November 4, 2024, Hao walked up to the tree-lined hill behind his house to buy drugs. After meeting a Hmong man (unknown identity and background), Hao ordered nearly 40 million VND worth of drugs. The seller agreed to take the money, and about 20 minutes later, he returned and gave Hao a package of drugs.

After taking the drugs home, Hao divided them into several packages and used black glue to cover them. After disguising the drugs, the young man hid them on the edge of his house wall. Two days later, Vi Van Hao took the drugs to Hanoi by bus with the intention of selling them to drug addicts around the boarding house. However, on the way, he was arrested by Nghia Dan district police with more than 115 grams of drugs.

At the trial, the defendant expressed remorse and admitted to committing the crime as charged in the indictment. The defendant confessed that when he went to Hanoi to study the language to work in Taiwan, he saw many people in his boarding house addicted to drugs, so he decided to trade drugs even though he knew it was against the law.

Dream of going abroad is gone

Regarding the source of the money used to buy drugs, the defendant said that he saved it up while working for the company. “During my time working as a factory worker in the North, I saved up some money. I used part of it to pay for foreign language classes, and the rest I planned to use to go abroad to work. But then I used it to trade drugs,” Hao told the court.

The defendant expressed remorse for his crime, which had upset his mother. According to Hao, due to difficult circumstances, his father died early, so he only finished 6th grade. After staying at home to help his family, Hao applied for a job at a company.

Although he had earned enough money to take care of his own life, Hao felt unstable. With the desire to break out to find a new, better job, to be able to take care of himself and his mother, Hao decided to quit his job at the company.

After that, this young man registered to study foreign languages at a center to go to Taiwan to work. However, during the language learning process, Hao could not overcome the trap of drugs. He bought drugs with the intention of reselling them, and his dream of going abroad was shattered from then on.

At the trial, the defendant expressed his sincere attitude, realizing that his actions were wrong. Hao expressed his guilt towards his mother - who had placed her hopes in him for many years. At the trial, the defendant asked the court to consider reducing his sentence so that he could soon have the opportunity to return to start a new life and repay his mother.

The jury deliberated, the large courtroom was dead silent. Hao turned his head slightly to look for his relatives but no one came. The male defendant sat quietly, his head bowed sadly. If he had not gotten involved with drugs, he would probably have gone abroad by now, with a chance to find a new life. However, now everything was too late for that young man...

The panel of judges determined that the defendant had full criminal capacity and was fully aware that the illegal purchase and sale of drugs was a violation of the law. However, the defendant disregarded the law, bought drugs to resell for profit, and deliberately sowed the seeds of crime in society, so he needed to be severely punished.

However, it is also necessary to consider some mitigating circumstances for the defendant such as his honest confession, repentance, and the defendant's grandfather being awarded the First Class Resistance Medal. After considering the entire case, the panel sentenced the defendant Vi Van Hao to 20 years in prison for the crime of illegal drug trafficking.

Once a young man with many ambitions, Hao lost his future because of a moment of failure. The road ahead now is a circle of law, but it is also the time for Hao to look back at himself, correct his mistakes and start over. Hopefully, during the days of reform, Hao will realize the true value of freedom and family, so that one day soon he can return, start his life over and repay his parents.
