Death penalty for murderer of 18 year old female student because she was not loved

On September 25, the People's Court of Da Nang City opened a mobile court at the People's Committee of Hoa Nhon Commune (Hoa Vang District) to try defendant Vo Thanh Tan (36 years old) for murder, and defendants Vo Van Tuan (44 years old) and Tran Nhut (20 years old) for concealing a criminal.

The jury sentenced defendant Tan to death. The two defendants Tuan and Nhut were both sentenced to 15 months in prison with a suspended sentence.

According to the indictment, Tan had unrequited feelings for female student Dang Thi Kim N. (18 years old, residing in Phuoc Thuan village, Hoa Nhon commune) but was rejected by N. because the two were related, N. called Tan "uncle".

Knowing the incident, N's family also forbade it, so Tan was resentful and had the intention to kill.

After that, Tan repeatedly tried to block N.'s car with a knife in the middle of the road but was unsuccessful. N. also reported the incident to the Hoa Nhon Commune Police.

On the night of June 17, Tan borrowed a motorbike and brought a knife to wait in front of N's house. Seeing N. taking her two younger sisters out of the house to an ice cream shop, he immediately followed. After that, N.'s three sisters returned home, Tan followed and hid in front of the house gate.

At nearly 10 p.m., Tan saw N. coming out of the gate, so he rushed over and stabbed N. repeatedly in the chest and stomach.

N. ran into the house but there was no one there so she ran back out to the street to call for help but was stabbed many times in the neck by Tan and died on the spot.

After committing the crime, Tan immediately fled to the mountains and called Tuan to ask about the victim's condition. Tuan informed him that N. had died, then gave Tan 1 million VND to escape.

During his escape, Tan was given an additional 150,000 VND by Nhut and then took a bus to the South. On June 27, Tan was arrested as he got off the bus in Phan Thiet City, Binh Thuan.
